Oh My Goodness.
Did you guys know that about 20 - TWENTY - pages of text were edited out of the paperback edition of Rilla of Ingleside? And that there is a new hardcover edition available through Amazon.ca that has them, as well as historical notes on WWI, and a whole heap of other cool things?
Rilla of Ingleside
Three months ahead of time isn't too early to order myself a birthday present, is it?

I did not know that. Hmm. I might have to give that a look.
I went ahead and ordered a copy this morning :-) I told Carl it was partly for the historical research, so he can't complain!
Oh my gosh! I am ordering a copy now. :)
PS: I wonder if the edited pages will deal with some of the gaps in the story that we have always explored in fanfiction, namely Di and Shirley and the other Blythe children?
Ooh. I would love that - I think. Unless it really messes with my ideas of Di and Shirley, in which case I might have to ignore it so far as ff is concerned!
I bought my copy today! I can't wait to discuss it with you guys.
I would love to see if any of LMM's plans for Di or Shirley coincide with ours. And I was thinking today I'd like to see more of Anne, too, actually. She took so much of a backseat in this book--I always missed her in it.
My copy arrived yesterday (by the way - amazingly fast delivery, considering I only ordered standard shipping. Props to Amazon.ca!), and just from reading the introduction and skimming the text, it looks like they maybe only took out a few words or lines here and there, not great chunks of text. The intro said they edited out a little over 4,000 words. I'm looking forward to reading it all the way through, making notes of the parts that seem different, and then comparing them to the paperback edition!
You'll have to give us a concise review when you're through.
I think you're right, Louise, but what a lot we can tell from just a few words here or there! I can't wait to discuss our thoughts on some of this.
Yes, Amazon.ca was great for me, too: I got the book the day after I ordered it! I wonder what would have happened if I paid for rush?
