I have decided to read The Blue Castle

I don't really know why I haven't read it before, but I've decided to start reading "The Blue Castle" today.

  1. Good choice, Adrienne! "The Blue Castle" is one of the few "other" LMM books that I have read. I really liked it. I've noticed that among the kindreds at the Avonlea Forum, TBC is probably the favorite non-Anne book.

It's fantastic. Barney Snaith is my favorite LMM hero. So dashing...so mysterious and unconventional! I don't know if it's my favorite non-Anne, but its up there.

Irishprincess, I'd love to join the Avonlea forum. I've registered a few times but no one ever gets back to me with a username/password! Do you know how I can do it?

  3. Good. We're about to go into town, and I think I'll stop over at Barnes and Noble. I've read a bit online, but I just like the feel of having a book to hold.

    I'm excited to get started!

The Barnes and Nobles around here very rarely have any of LMM's books besides Anne of GG! I hope you find it. I know what you mean about the "feel of a book."

  5. Ruby, I'll tell the webmistress at AF that you've submitted your registration info. and are waiting for a response. Maybe that will speed things up a bit. Have you registered as GEERUBY or under another name?

  6. I found the only copy at Barnes & Noble in the Younger Readers Section. It's so very hard to find books in there at all because of the way they categorize them. It's a shame they don't put more L.M. Montgomery out for people to buy. I collect leather bound books with gold leafing. I wish I could find some of Montgomery's works in that form. The only place that I know sells them is Eastman Press, and you have to subscibe to it.

I did manage to buy a 1919 Rainbow Valley and 1921 Rilla of Ingleside off of EBay a few months ago. They're just antiques, not leatherbound. I'm still proud of them though.

    Nice!

I have 1sts of Rainbow Valley, Rilla, House of Dreams, and Chronicles of Avonlea of the Anne books, and both of the Story Girl books. They have the loveliest covers and are such a worthwhile thing to collect.

Ebay is a good place to look, also try abebooks.com

My latest thing is collecting the original magazines that LMM was published in. I have two so far. I still need to find a way to display them and the books.

How are you liking Blue Castle, Adrienne?

  8. I like it a great deal. I hope to read a great deal of it tonight after my mother goes home to Oklahoma. I'm just now to the part where Valancy goes to Cecilia Gay. It took a while for the story to pick up, but when it did, it's pretty great.
