Beyond Montgomery

It is obvious that we all share an interest in the works of L. M. Mongtgomery. What other books interest you? How does that interest affect your ff's, or does it?

Being an American girl, my basis is in American and British Literature. I've always thought it odd that American and Brit Lit are two semester courses, but World Lit is only one. Wouldn't it take even longer to really cover the great literature of the world?

Anyway, now that I've finished chasing that rabbit, I don't really know where to start listing my favorites.

Jane Austen is at the top of my list. Pride and Prejudice is one of my all-time favorite books, and did influence my ff a lot. (Especially if you caught the last name of Walter's first wife, and her family's story.) I like all of her books a great deal.

Next on my list would have to be Charles Dickens. He also influenced me some. The first work of his that I've truley loved ( other then a Christmas Carol because I saw the Mickey Mouse version long before I read it ) was Great Expectations. My favorite part has always been when Miss Havisham catches on fire. Though now, my favorite is obviously David Copperfield.

In American Lit, To Kill A Mockingbird is at the top of the list. It is a wonderful story. Despite the plot about the trial, just the interaction between scout and Gem is priceless.

The Great Gatsby is also wonderful. F. Scott Fitzgerald is a favorite of mine because he has such a seamless way of writing.

I also love historical novels such as those written by Edward Rutherford and John Jakes.

I could go on, and on, and on. However, I won't do that, much more. Everything that I've ever read influences the way that I write, the way I think, the jokes I make. in other words, I totally get Rory Gilmore.
