We talk so much about all things Blythe on this board, but what about LMM's other characters? Emily, Pat, Marigold, Valancy, Kilmeny, the Story Girl, Jane, Gay or Donna or Jocelyn in A Tangled Web -- who's your favorite non-Anne heroine and why?

I'm rather fond of Pat, even though I get frustrated with her. I think that she is, perhaps, LMM's most complete character after Anne. I like how she is described as being not beautiful, but helping people always feel at ease when they are around her. And I love the Story Girl for her adveturnessness and also because it must have been so fun to be around her. The other characters in the Story Girl books are some of my favorites in any LMM series, as well, especially Felicity, and Dan and Bev, the two characters that were not included in the Road to Avonlea series.

I love Emily, but for some reason I can't love Teddy, so the fact that Emily does makes me feel like I don't understand her as well as I should.

What do you guys think?

  1. I hate to say that I haven't really read anything else. At least not in the way I do the Anne books. Well, that's not correct. I have read "A Tangled Web," "Kilmeny," "Jane of Lantern Hill," and some of "The Story Girl." I will admit that I tried to read "Pat of Silverbush" after reading your Cecilia stories, and I just couldn't get into it in the same way.

I guess my favorite so far would be probably Donna from "A Tangled WEb."

I never had any of those, but I've read Chronicles of Avonlea, futher chronicles of avonlea, road to yesterday, after many days, and akin to anne. Once I got to read an Emily book, that was exciting I guess. But I really do like the short story books.

  3. If you can't find a book to buy, most of them can be found as online etexts at places like Project Gutenburg.

There's the link for a complete list of LMM online (free!) texts.

I highly recommend the Story Girl and the Golden Road. If you don't fall immediately in love with Sara Stanley and her cousins, I will eat my hat. It's very reminscent of the vibe I am trying to go for in The Harbour Light.

  5. iffie21 Says:

thanks, I'll check it out, you know how people say I'll eat my hat, would you really?

  6. It depends on what kind of hat it is. Straw hats are a maybe, but I think that wool ones will only cause indigestion. :)

  7. geeruby Says:

I actually own no hat. Not even a winter cap.

  8. iffie21 Says:

I think I would if it was an edible hat... heheh Ruby, so if we don't like them then you get to eat an imanginary hat! have any of you ever been to PEI?

  9. geeruby Says:

Alas, no. My husband is willing to go with me but we tend to go to tropical islands when we have the money.

  10. I have not, though I have told my husband that we shall some day. This year we're going trout fishing in September, ie he's going to be fishing while I read, write, and sometimes reel in a fish or two. I just won't bait my hook or touch the fish.

I'm planning on going, I just have to wait until I have the time and money. Maybe when I'm done with college. When you were in college, did you ever feel the need to drop out? It takes soo long(I guess I really shouldn't say that becaues I am almost done, but it gets aggrivating)Then I am thinking about graduate school, but I guess I'd have to finally decide that one when I am not in a "I want to drop out and go take a nap" mood.

Hey RUby, that link didn't work for me.

  13. geeruby Says:

    Hmm, that's odd.

try to copy and paste it. Otherwise you can go to tickledorange.com, then "An LMM Resource Page" then click Etexts, under the "Writings" heading.

Or you can google the name of the book you want to read plus "etext." That will bring something up.

I guess it just my computer, it won't open it, annoyances of annoyances.

You all have to go to P.E.I. it doesn't disappoint I swear. The green gables museam/house even has a lovers lane and a haunted wood and they sell rasberry cordial in the barn. It's great. My favorite character from other L.M.M. books would probably be marigold or pat.

Ah ha, now that I have read something besides Anne and Emily, I must say that I really love Valancy! I'm glad that I was older than I was when I read Anne, if I had been younger I don't think I could have appreciated it as much. She's my new favorite. I love Barney too! I loved Cicely as well.
